| cartographic/drift guidelines: 1. your map is a very rough guide to the experience of navigating the place. Use it however you like. It is up to your interpretation. 2. with the highlighter, mark your route on the map. draw arrows to indicate which way you are moving. 3. you must document your travel with notes and images 4. take only close-up photos. But take them where you like. Depends on what interests you. 5. wherever you take a photo, mark it on the map with a number. 6. if you stop to take a photo, make a quick note about what you see. Not “I am looking at a building” , but instead note the physical description of the site, the colors, the smells, what it might remind you of. 7. you will be given a specific amount of time. At the end of that period, you must navigate your way back to the starting point or established end point. 8. remember, it’s not about reaching any one particular destination. Feel free to wander. If something looks interesting on the map, or in your actual physical space, then check it out. But be sure to make notes and take pictures. And again, close-up pictures. 9. if you feel the urge to wander into a shop, do so. Just be sure to make a note of it. And mark that on the map as well. 10. obviously, the map will not directly correspond to the actual space through which you are navigating. Just assume that one block on the map equals one block in real life. 11. don’t take it too seriously. Just experience a new place. 12. be sure to put your name into the book so we can keep track of who traveled where and give you credit for participating. |
